Q&A with Executive Director Linda Wilgus

Linda WilgusWriter: Linda Wilgus, Executive Director, Northwest Radiology Network

1. What’s the importance of all of NWR’s accreditations? Does that really make a difference?

Our accreditations are a nationally-recognized evaluation process used to assess the quality and safety of diagnostic imaging. Accreditation provides a framework for process and procedure improvement in order for patients to receive the best care.

2. NWR is the preferred partner of physicians throughout central Indiana. What does that mean to patients?

Northwest Radiology has been providing diagnostic imaging services in Indiana since 1967. We have established relationships with local physicians in every area of medicine from family practice to neurology. Our physicians also provide radiology services in an inpatient setting for 16 area hospitals.

3. With the low or more affordable costs, are patients getting the best quality of care in outpatient imaging? The same physicians who read images on an inpatient basis are performing readings for our outpatient centers as well. All of our physicians are diagnostic imaging experts. They have completed the required medical school and residency requirements. Additionally, our radiologists are subspecialty trained in areas like mammography, musculoskeletal radiology, neuroradiology, pediatrics and more.

4. NWR offers evidence-based, outcome-focused medicine. Explain.

NWR offers high-quality subspecialized radiology services. Exams are read by the physician who subspecializes in the anatomy being imaged. (For example, studies of the brain are read specifically by neuroradiologists.) Because of our subspecialization, NWR physicians provide definitive diagnoses to the patient’s referring physicians in order to guide the best care for the patient.

5. Why shouldn’t patients just go to the provider their doctor recommends instead of NWR?

With the increase in high-deductible plans and increased premiums, patients are doing their homework when it comes to spending their healthcare dollars. Patients have a choice on where they can go for their outpatient imaging. Our flat rate prices are guaranteed with no guesswork and can often save the patient hundreds of dollars.
